Fledgling glossy, all-local, quarterly music mag Jump is having their launch party tonight at National Mechanics. Creeping Weeds will be on hand helping them celebrate the momentous occasion. Their long-awaited sophomore full-length See Through was released this past February, and did not disappoint for fans of the indie pop songsmiths. (You can read our review of their album HERE.) They will be joined this evening by experimental surf-punk trio Mercury Radio Theater and pop rockers Lamagier. DJs Honkytron (electronic rock-a-soul-billy) and Bropar (punk) will be spinning throughout the evening so you can come get crazy and toast with the staff and friends of Jump. We here at The Deli have a fondness for print so we wish them well. Cheers Jump! National Mechanics, 22 S. 3rd St., 8pm, Free, 21+ - H.M. Kauffman

Congrats to Freeway for such an amazingly positive piece on CNN! You make Philly proud. Below is some footage from Freeway’s interview of him talking about the importance of his Muslim faith on his life and music career. You also find him reaching out to local youths about combating bullying in schools. You can read the whole article written by Sarah Hoye HERE. Cheers Freeway - thank you for using your fame and talents for good instead of “winning”! - The Deli Staff
Work Drugs just shared another “smooth-fi” track today called “Curious Serge”. You can download it below. “Curious Serge” is the opening song off of their limited edition EP(s) Tropic of Cancer/Tropic of Capricorn, which you can purchase HERE. All proceeds go to helping fund their upcoming tour in April with Two Door Cinema Club. Its “official” release date is April Fool’s Day, and they will be performing at Johnny Brenda’s next Saturday, April 2. - The Deli Staff
Tonight’s show at The Station might be the debut performance of the virtually unknown Gold Crowns, but its members have rocked the foundation of Philadelphia before as a part of Dark Horse & the Carousels, Invisible Friends, and Sweatheart for years. And they’re destined to be as rockin’, alcohol-charged, and naughty as the other bands (hopefully). Plus, with a big show that will see them play alongside The Extraordinaires and Juston Stens & The Get Real Gang already on the horizon, it looks like they’re making the rounds with good company. They’ll be joined by long-time friends the Tough Shits, who will be returning to a Philly stage for the first time since November. Rounding out the lineup will be lo-fi South Philly art rockers The Great Vibration and STDiva ‘tine-‘tine. The Station, 1550 McKean St., 9pm, $3 - $5, 21+ - Bill McThrill
“Animal Show” is Pterodactyl’s fitting yearly art show where a menagerie of beasts become the muses that are used to depict the artists’ projection of myths, fantasies, and ideas. For opening night, the DIY art space has lined-up a 3 ring circus of musicians to heighten the evening’s party. Eat Your Birthday Cake have been working on an album that is set to be unveiled in the spring. They’ve even debuted a lo-fi shoegaze-y sound that can be heard on new material such as “Kathy + Ken”. The Pterodactyl event will be the bands 2nd performance of the day since they’ll also be part of a Jazz Benefit for Japan at Rittenhouse Square’s Church of the Holy Trinity. So today will be a great chance to catch them before they unleash some April Fools at Danger Danger Gallery next week. Also on the “Animal Show” bill will be indie popsters Cow Pals, who recently released a new EP at the beginning of this year called Look Who’s Comin’, and Jersey’s Peanut Butter Lovesicle. Pterodactyl, 3237 Amber St. Box 3 Fifth Floor North, 8pm, Donations, All Ages - Bill McThrill
Local romantics Pet Milk are set to open for Costa Rican noise pop Las Robertas. With the quasi-moody diction of “Permanent Vacation” and the heartfelt shreds of “Cherry Outline”, it’s clear why Herbie Shellenberger (Brown Recluse) and his fellow bandmates ( who are made up of members from hometown hardcore outfits Paint It Black and Pink Coffins as well as A Sunny Day in Glasgow) are the perfect premise to Las Robertas’ driving riffs and the garage-y buzz of tracks like “Damn ‘92” and “The Curse”. Leave it to No Wavelength to treat the City of Brotherly Love to Las Robertas’ first ever Philly performance. Pakistani musical gunslingers Sunny Ali and the Kid will be armed with their most enjoyable lo-fi ditties and Try Harder cassettes so dust off your tape player and grab a copy. Also kicking off the evening will be Brooklyn’s Dear Marje. Miss out on this, and you’ll regret it for months! Seriously, we hope to see you there. Cha-Cha'Razzi, (Please contact NOWAVELENGTH@gmail.com for directions.), 8pm (SHARP), $7 - $10, All Ages (Pet Milk Photo by Madeleine Lesperance)

You’ll have your chance to have your eardrums assaulted (in a good way) today when Moon Women perform a FREE super intimate show at Queen Village’s Digital Ferret. It’ll be a nice warm-up for their BIG upcoming show at The Troc with Black Lips and Vivian Girls. But these types of events might be getting easier for the shadowy post-punk trio to handle. Since, in about a year’s time of emerging onto the Philly music scene with their eye-catching video and debut single “Listen Closely”, they’ve already opened for indie legends Buzzcocks and Gang of Four. Maybe you could be one of the few and the proud to someday say, “I remember when I saw them in this tiny little record store.” It is also the record release show for Baltimore dark-wavers Red This Ever, and Japan’s scholarly duo Rose Noire (Darkest Labyrinth) will be joining them. Digital Ferret, 732 S. 4th St., 6pm, FREE, All Ages - Q.D. Tran
Below is a new episode of UNIVOX TV. All we can say is more episodes with Kent Boersma, please. In this "instructional video", Boersma shows us how to make “dozens of dollars” building a mask-making empire. You can purchase your very own mask HERE. There is also a pretty song from The Jones Gang celebrating “urban wreckage Irish style.” Enjoy! - The Deli Staff
The sludge rocking psychedelia of Philly’s own Lurker are coming out of the woodwork tonight to play Kung Fu Necktie. The musical affair is largely instrumental. However, the distant howls of Chief do add a haunting afterglow to the already brooding music. The guitar work of tunes like “Knife Fight” build and weave like many a post rock band, but have their own blend of Birds of Maya fuzz and minimalistic drums. This freight train of apocalyptic soundtracks is opening up for Moon Duo, which is born from Wooden Ships member Ripley Johnson to create Kraut-esque psych music for a perfectly dark and moody night. You should hear some cool shit tonight. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 Front St., 8pm, $8, 21+ - Adam G.
