Healing Cow fuse indie/garage/lo-fi sounds on debut EP, set to perform at O'Brien's 09.18

Boston rockers Healing Cow boast a catalog of different musical styles in their debut, ANGELA, meshing lo-fi garage with smoother indie vibes. The opener, “High School Luv Song,” is a fun garage rock number, but sounds completely different from the following tracks “Washed” and “The Gilded Cunt”, which feature a more sedated approach in part reminiscent of '90s lo-fi bands like Ween, but definitely less humorous. Reverbered guitars, calm percussion, and softer female vocals actually create a borderline loungy atmosphere. An interlude transitions the EP back to the initial frantic feel with “Carpetsoft”, ultimately finishing off with “Angelina Jolie”, a funny and quick garage pop-punk track wrapping up the record. The band will be coming back from a string of summer shows with a performance at O’Brien’s Pub in Boston this September 18th, check out the band’s work below! – Pearse Devlin

See Stove before "Indefinite Hiatus" at Babys (09.06) and Alphaville (09.24)

In a recent Facebook post, NYC-based garage favorites Stove - the solo project of Ovlov's frontman Steve Hartlett - announced they would be beginning an "indefinite hiatus." Given Stove's sparse live schedule this announcement shouldn't come as a surprise, but still, we are sad to see them go. "Is Stupider," their 2015 full-length, was thoroughly enjoyed (and covered). We privately celebrated loud, funny, pissed-off tracks with imaginative titles like "Stupid," "Stupider," and "Stupidest" - heck, even Rolling Stones reviewed that record! Stove has been a fun and sonically rewarding project, but maybe instability is also something that deserves to be celebrated, it's part of nature's cycle: we are looking forward to Harlett's next project. The last two Stove shows will be at Baby's All Right on September 6th, and at Alphaville on September 24th. -Allie Miller

Covey Releases First Single Off New Album, Haggarty

Boston-based indie-folk project, Covey, is gearing up to release a new record, Haggarty, and with it, a brand new single.  "Same White Shoes" is a new indie anthem, with a sustained melancholy broken up by a bright, catchy sing-along chorus.  Covey captures the listener with full-bodied guitar tones, unique and complimentary, and a wonderfully warm, analog sound.   Soulful and engaging, the album is expected to be a must have for our playlist when it dropped on 9/22.  Check out the single below. -Brian Varneke

Marvelous Liars Bring New Album to Knickerbocker Cafe 08.12

Take the swagger and strut of The Stones, mix with some QOTSA-style desert fuzz, and throw in some catchy vocal melodies a la The Strokes, and you still won't exactly nail down Marvelous Liars.  The Connecticut rock n rollers are just that, embodying the vibe of old-school rock with a modern edge.  The new, self-titled record shows off those chops, with each track showing off a different flavor of the trio's eclectic style.  Hit the player below for a taste and catch the band at Knickerbocker Cafe in Westerly, RI on 8/12. -Brian Varneke
