Maps & Atlases on Daytrotter

In case you missed it, like I did, Daytrotter posted a new session with Maps & Atlases on June 24th. The band performed three tracks from their latest album Perch Patchwork, and an unreleased track called “Ted Zancha”.

The band does not have a Chicago show scheduled right now, but will be touring the country this summer and heading to the UK in October.

Oh Ivory!

Light Pollution recently performed their track “Oh Ivory!” for AON Sessions. The band’s track “Good Feeling” was also recently remixed by Memoryhouse.

Light Pollution will be performing at West Fest on July 11th and at Empty Bottle on July 16th.

Noise Floor Crew

I received word today that the local label Dust Traxx will be releasing the debut ep from Noise Floor Crew (Local Hero and Lady Foursquare). The group has been making beats and remixes for the last two years and has stirred up a lot of attention in the dance community. On their debut ep they have created a whole new sound for Chicago house while keeping key traces of the classics. They also have remixes by Rob Threezy and Rampage of Ghetto Division, Edu K, Chrissy Murderbot, Thunderous Olympian and DJ Figure from Tommie Sunshine's new label, Brooklyn Fire. Here is our first taste of what we can expect from Noise Floor Crew.

Teen Daze & Houses

One of the hottest bands on the internet, Vancouver’s Teen Daze, has partnered with our very own Houses to create a track called “Destiny”. The publicist for Teen Daze made it sound like there will be more to come from this exciting combination.

Village on Giant System

This week's Giant System video feature one of my favorite new bands in the Village. The band will be performing at Lincoln Hall on July 14th.

From our Open Blog: Paskey

Paskey makes something along the lines of new-wave alternative pop-rock. Influences orbit The Killers, R.E.M., U2, New Order and Joy Division. Imagine rhythmic programming, synths, echoing guitar lines, hushed vocals. A modern artist with a summer cottage in 1987. Just released a video for "These Saturday Nights" that was recorded on a hundred-dollar camera and edited over four evenings. For a limited time you can download the latest album, "What Goes Up," for free from the band’s website.

Kindred

This week Jenny Gillespie put her new album Kindred on bandcamp for her fans and the world to stream. The physical edition of the album will be released on July 13th, but you can now become familiar with this new and beautiful album before the release show on July 17th at Martyrs. Kindred picks up where last year’s Light Year album left off, and pushes forward. One of my favorite tracks from the album has to be “Golden Central”. It is an elegant piano ballad in the same vein as Sarah McLaughlin or Tori Amos.

Kindred is a sonically rich album that should garner much national attention. You can see Jenny Gillespie perform at Martyrs on July 17th.
