Debut Empty Country Single Release Available for Streaming & Purchase

Joseph D’Agostino (of Cymbals Eat Guitars) recently announced a new project, Empty Country. As a precursor to a forthcoming album that is slated to arrive early next year, a pair of songs, "Ultrasound" and "Jets," were recently made available via Tiny Engines. "Ultrasound" explores the emotional turmoil and anxiety of waiting for a biopsy report “…following a suspicious-looking ultrasound”. With D’Agostino's wife Rachel, as well as Charles Bissell of The Wrens, featured on vocal harmony, the song fuses a sense of a loving connection and appreciation as one goes through a whirlwind.

Fish House releases escapist new single, plays Lilypad Inman 08.10

A little groovy, a little surfy, and a lot of fun is “Better for It” the latest single from Boston’s Fish House. The talented trio does not lack direction: each note in the new track is carefully placed to stimulate the senses, create images of a peaceful world desired. The band’s indie rock is polished with elements of R&B, creating its appeal. From the smooth vocal delivery to the deep bass groove and shimmering piano notes that surround it, the single is a sonic rope leading to escape. Indie rock’s progression over the last few years has leaned toward the harsh electronic sounds of Ty Segall and Des Rocs, but it could be argued what Fish House offers for the genre is far more sensitive and sound. The band is bringing its evocative sounds to Lilypad Inman in Cambridge on August 10th. We are streaming the new single for you below. - Rene Cobar

New Music Video: "For Billy" - Sheena, Anika and Augusta

Sheena, Anika and Augusta, a.k.a. Sheena Ozzella (Lemuria), Anika Pyle (Katie Ellen, Chumped), and Augusta Koch (Cayetana, Gladie), will release their debut EP Simple Pleasures on September 6 via Asian Man Records. Its lead single, “For Billy,” is a spellbinding a cappella that interlaces the trio's vocals in a penetrating, fluid beauty. The song is seemingly a reflection of the emotive path taken to reach the present moment. (Photo by Katie Krulock)

Ceschi digs deep in new record, Middle East performance set for 09.01

New Haven’s Ceschi Ramos challenges listeners to enter his world of inconvenient truths and dark social tales. In his brand new record Sans Soleil, Ceschi makes use of a full sonic arsenal: from alternative hip-hop verses that sting with precision to folk eulogies fit for gatherings by the porch light, it all delivers somber realities. Ceschi and his array of collaborators hold nothing back as they comment on today’s political tensions, state of the media, inner-city conditions, and how identity gets muddled in it all. Take a track like “Incesticide (feat. Open Mike Eagle, P.O.S, Onry Ozzborn, Factor Chandelier, Mo Niklz)” which showcases Ceschi and his collaborators alternating spitfire verses to the might of a percussive electronic beat, the back and forth recalling the glory of ‘80s hip-hop groups. “Christ on a Cross” by comparison is a heartfelt track that uses an acoustic guitar chord progression to tell an urban tale of religious ambiguity, the tragedy of faith exposed. The stories found in Sans Soleil hit hard, the way music should. Catch Ceschi Ramos at Middle East in Cambridge on September 1st. We are streaming “Yoni’s Electrocardiographs (feat. Yoni Wolf)” for you below. - Rene Cobar
