Debut La Palma Album Available for Streaming & Purchase

The pairing of Chris Walker & Tim Gibbon, a.k.a. La Palma, recently shared its debut self-titled album. A bubbling, bouncy, psych-pop/surf vibe hangs in the humid air. The balance of low-key, laid-back melodies and adventurous instrumental combinations create a compelling/calming dynamic. Unassuming, infectious rhythms and harmonic vocal textures hypnotically draw you in.

The Wild Honey Pie Presents: Daisy the Great @ Le Fanfare on 04.17

On I’m Not Getting Any Taller, the latest album from indie-folk outfit Daisy the Great, the duo solidifies its own voice that's equal parts heart-wrenching and humorous. From first listen you can hear how they bend seemingly cutesy harmonies and mid-tempo, acoustic ballads into revealing and hypnotic displays of genuine hurt. The mundane, the absurd and the sentimental attachments found in life are lovingly displayed but still illustrate how affecting they can be. Songs like “Dips” morph from swaying, bluesy-pop to a dreamlike oasis that slips between your fingers before it crystalizes. Like a smile that can’t help but crack, I’m Not Getting Any Taller snaps a photo of the bleak and the blithe moments of life, something that rarely sounds as good as it does here. If you want to see Daisy the Great live and enjoy cocktails, you can catch them at Manhattan's restaurant Le Fanfare on April 17, an event organized by our blogging friends The Wild Honey Pie in a collaboration with bourbon makers Noble Oak. –Tucker Pennington

Angela James "Quiet Night"

Angela James has released the first two singles, “Sailing” and “Hattie’s Dream”, from her forthcoming collection of lullabies called “Quiet Night”. On the album James is joined by Charles Rumback (vibraphone), Jason Stein (bass clarinet), and Katherine Young (bassoon), and has managed to create an album that will be just as enjoyable and restful for adults as it should be for children. The album’s tagline is “made for weary parents by weary parents”, but there is more of a lush peacefulness filling these tracks than a tired or weary feeling.

You can help James celebrate the new album on April 20th at Hideout (at 3pm) with Spectralina.

New Chris Forsyth Double LP Available for Streaming

Ahead of its official release on April 12 via No Quarter, All Time Present, the new album from Chris Forsyth, is available for streaming, courtesy of NPR's First Listen. Setting sail on an adventurous path, a reeled-in, ruminating, atmosphere juxtaposes the searing, soaring, psych-rock peaks with pensive, instrumental valleys. A mythical, sonic story evolves over the long haul. Jerry’s on Front will be hosting a pair of record release shows on April 27 and 28 (the first of which is sold out), with the latter being supported by Cold Hands.

Oginalii play The Basement 04.05 to release new LP "Cause and Affection"

If it seems like it's been a while since you heard from Oginalii, you might want to clean out your ears. They've stormed across the Rust Belt over the past few months playing shows in support of their upcoming album Cause and Affection. To mark the release, they'll play The Basement on April 5th, which is when the album will drop wherever you get your music. Back in November, The Deli wrote about "Forgotten Kindness", a single from the album which highlighted the intense sound that main shredder Emma Hoeflinger crafted to complement the call to empathy in her lyrics. Just last month, the band released "Light As A Feather", a darker track about managing and struggling to cope with anxiety in a healthy way. Take a listen to "Light As A Feather" below, and catch Oginalii and Cause and Affection at The Basement on April 5th. - Will Sisskind
