Tara Velarde EP Release

Portland indie folk-pop artist Tara Velarde is playing a local release show for her new EP this Friday. The album, titled Rise, is thoughtful and sensitive. It has some wonderful pop ballads, such as "Touch You." Velarde's voice is rich, but light and airy at the same time. She has a unique and subtle twang in her voice, imbuing each song with traditional folk sound. At the heart of her sound, and appeal, is soft folk-pop done beautifully. Of course, Velarde isn't just soft corners, and songs like "Such an Island" bring out her grittier, tougher side. It's a nice balance, and shows the depth of Velarde's country-music chops. Check out "Touch You" below.

The release show is this Friday, May 17th. It'll be at Secret Society. There Is No Mountain and Far Out West will also be playing.

Tyler Boone supports new EP at The Basement on 06.05

Tyler Boone has had a busy year, between releasing an EP, lending his name to a brand of bourbon, and hosting the Charleston Songwriters Festival in his South Caroline hometown. But the Nashville-based musician will take off on a Boone's Bourbon-sponsored tour this June, performing all over the Southeast throughout the first part of the month. He'll return to Nashville on June 5th to play The Basement with Southern Gothic and Uncle Duane's Band on the bill. Boone's latest EP, Jealousy, came out this past January, and includes the bluesy title track which has racked up the listens on radio and Spotify. Take a listen to "Jealousy" below. - Will Sisskind

New Lester Album Available for Streaming & Download

We Could Have Been Anywhere, the new release from Lester, occupies a cozy, mercurial dynamic. As though rocketing through space with a clear singular focus, while the tumultuous nature of the outside world occurs within sight, these songs have an allaying effect. Uniting vulnerable vocals with volatile instrumentation, the band creates an ebb and flow that pulls you in and then pushes you away. It's heavy, and it still feels like home. Weekend Warrior, May 10 - 12

Spring is in full bloom, and that means a day of music and BBQing is in order. This Saturday, the Haus of Yarga will be hosting its BBYQ (where vegan options will be available as well). Fourteen acts are slated to appear at the annual event that will be starting in the early afternoon. The brutal, blitzing punk of Dialer will roar and menacingly rip, integrating synth & saxophone. Trash Knife will also immediately jump into high gear, sprinting in a tenaciously catchy, shredding circumstance. Unleashing a subdued slacker vibe that can ramp up in a moment’s notice, while escalating into heavier, fuzz-forward tones, the trio of Apt A weaves between genres as internalized monologues are released to the outside world. John Galm, a.k.a. Bad Heaven LTD, will deliver some mesmerizing folk that wraps you in its spellbinding words as the instruments comfortably warp around you. And to add yet another layer of intrigue, Shamir is also listed as a special guest. – Michael Colavita

New Radiator Hospital LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Radiator Hospital returns to a stripped-down, intimate sound on its latest release, Sings "Music for Daydreaming", which just dropped today via Salinas Records. Graceful melodies roll and bounce in an easy-going manner as the endearing nature of the lyrics strikes an exposed, relatable chord. The band is set to hold its record release celebration on Tuesday, May 21 at PhilaMOCA, supported by Cherry, Swanning, and Big Nothing.
