A Deli Premiere: Kris Kelly releases new album "Runaways" 08.30

"Runaways is a collection of very personal songs I would sing to myself when I felt alone, confused, hopeless, and needed to turn inward to process my struggle. I hope people will be able to relate to the universal themes in the songs and that they might find comfort in seeing their own experiences mirrored throughout the album."

Five years traveling in South America helped indie songwriter Kris Kelly discover love, loss, and home, all of which contributed to the songs on his upcoming record Runaways. The album, which comes out August 30th, features Kelly's atmospheric compositions with the touches of a production team who has worked with Ani DiFranco and Devendra Banhart, among others. Much of the album also centers around Kelly meeting his now-husband during his travels, and their search for home back when returning to the States as a married couple was legally impossible. Now that they've found home, to listen to Runaways is to understand the path of Kelly's journey from questioning into self-discovery. Take a listen to the album below, and here's Kris Kelly's Spotify profile. - Will Sisskind

False Pocket offers lush soul fusion, plays Thunder Road tonight

Back in June, Boston's False Pocket released its neo-soul music collection titled Space. The album is a jazz euphoria that you wish would never end, each song immerses you deeper into the group's lush soul fusion. "Uh2" opens the record with a groovy beat and punchy-soulful vocals that accentuate each lyric with sass. The album's title track provides the kind of jazz atmosphere that melts the body into the nearest couch, in complete happiness; the bass is just that smooth, the sax that elegant. The snappy snare in "Touch" draws you into a slow dance groove, and deeper you go. By the end of the album, the classy electric guitar strums and Italian lyrics in "Una Prova Infinita" will have you under the band's sonic sea of harmony. The group is playing at Thunder Road in Somerville tonight, and it promises to be a good time. We are streaming "Bract" from Space below. - Rene Cobar

Boot's "EP" remains (un)comfortably indoors

Indoor drama is a central theme to Brooklyn indie trio Boot’s debut EP, finding both comfort and claustrophobia in the time spent at home. Each of the extended play’s four tracks set a scene with two players, with each performance a soliloquy that revels in the coziness of intimacy, or squirms under unescapable pressure. From opener “Heaven Is A Place In Queens,” which details the simple pleasures of suburban living over dreamy arpeggios, to “Let’s Go To Bed,” wherein the protagonist lands himself on the couch for things that should have remained unsaid, Boot has a talent for rendering the highs and lows of domestic living in a way that feels ubiquitous. The EP’s instrumental accompaniment feels equally homespun; bright, lofi guitar work and melodic syncopation lend a calm comfort to each track’s performance, breaking only for an explosive solo on “Tally Up” to close this effort on a high note. Magen Tracy & the Missed Connections release classy record, play Brighton Music Hall 09.08

Somerville's Magen Tracy isn't shy about inviting listeners into her sonic playground; the singer-songwriter is wholeheartedly engaged in the music. Magen Tracy and the Missed Connections have released their latest record, Long Fuse Burning, a ten-track indie-folk carnival for the senses. The new album employs echoing guitars and fiery drum beats in tracks like "(Even the Good Guys) Fall," melancholy piano melodies in "Move a Crowd," and gorgeous harmonies in songs like "Sweetheart." Magen's performance never dials down the charm; it merely presents it in the most appropriate form for the song's mood. The band has a date at the Brighton Music Hall in Boston on September 8th. We are streaming the country-tinged "Dirty Little Secret" below for your enjoyment. - Rene Cobar

Chelsey Meyer releases deeply-layered single "Your Mind Amazes Me (Shots!)"

We are keeping with today’s indie-pop theme by presenting to you the music of Boston’s Chelsey Meyer. The singer-songwriter’s voice is a quick shot of endorphins to the brain, a light to dissipate the gloomiest of thoughts. Despite having a tinge of DIY to it, Chelsey’s latest single “Your Mind Amazes Me (Shots!)” has a sophistication to it that is undeniable. The song’s chipper vocal inflections and grandiose instrumentation are almost theatrical in delivery: piano leads, a warm bassline, and Meyer’s vocal range tell a great story in full performance. The track is a mass collaboration that Chelsey is grateful for; they should all be proud for they have delivered New England a solid tune to forget the world for a while. We are streaming the new single below. - Rene Cobar
