Blonde Elvis w/ TWIST @ Handlebar

Unabashed love of psychedelia so sincere they’re the 60’s in high fidelity. Blonde Elvis lay it down as it is, bouncy rhythms and reverb-soaked vocals taking you on a sight-seeing (or hearing) tour, stopping and taking in some Eno, Bowie, and Lou Reed all at once. “Slow Fall On Egypt” is a Brit-Pop, in-and-out, bite-sized bit of groovy rock n roll (bonus points for a flute solo). Topping out at just over 2 minutes, this song is catchy, poignant, and just a little coy in its delivery. One can only imagine the imagery flying through frontman’s Jesse James Laderoute head as he churned this one out. Currently on a border-crossing tour, you can catch them at home, with fellow mellow-rock act Twist, at Handlebar, Friday, May 22nd!

Taking a page from the lighter side of late 80’s alt rock, Twist flexes melody over muscle. One part Chan Marshall, one part Kim Gordon, presented delicately, but firmly. Beautifully layered guitars, light percussion, and distant, sultry vocals, “Albuquerque” is a gorgeous use of space and harmonics. The slow-burning intro, and the fantastic dynamics demand you pay attention to every chime and half-whispered syllable. The beauty and sadness of the track all combine to provide a perfect backdrop to escape whatever ails you, even if it’s only for a short time. The repeat button was abused quite viciously with this tune.

Video Premiere: The Love Dimension - Inner Eye Insight + Show at GAMH - 5/23

The San Francisco based psychedelic revivalist band, The Love Dimension has shared a new music video for Inner Eye Insight, a single from their latest album, Create and Consume. The video was directed by Matt Robeson of White Light Prism.

"Matt took us around the Bay Area last December and January on location to various spots in Oakland, San Francisco and Marin County. Hiking around with all that gear into all of those nature spots wasn't easy, but we had a lot of fun filming this so want to share it with you." -Jimmy Dias, lead singer/songwriter of TLD

Oh, we're so into the love-centric, esoteric lyrics of Inner Eye Insight and the amazing nature shots going on in the video. It's really nice to see the band's six member full line up grooving all in one shot!

Check out the video and then take the opportunity to see The Love Dimension perform live at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on Saturday, May 23rd. The show will also include performances by Cellar Doors, Buzzmutt and The Bad Jones.

Birdstriking The Pleasure Routine Chui Wan and Deadly Cradle Death Play Brick and Mortar - 6/1

San Francisco's Brick and Mortar Music Hall will be hosting an awesome Beijing invasion on June 1st in the Mission District. A Recordings Ltd. (Anton Newcombe of the Brian Jonestown Massacre's record label) artists, Birdstriking will be performing in support of their new self titled album. The strange and experimental nu-gaze band, The Pleasure Routine will be sharing the bill with Birdstriking along with the psych, slightly prog influenced experimental band,  Chui Wan and Birdstriking/Chui Wan combo side project, Deadly Cradle Death. If all of that info is not cool enough, long time Brian Jonestown Massacre member, Ricky Maymi will be DJing at the show!

You can get out of town (and the country) just by proxy of wandering into this awesome International show. Get a taste of a different culture! The music is going to be noisy, ear splitting and massively fun.

Faiyaz and the Wasted Chances @ the Horseshoe

Faiyaz and the Wasted Chances come from a dirty garage somewhere in Toronto. They play beautifully dirty garage rock. They're most recent single "Open" could have been invented anywhere in the 50s, 60s or 70s. Lucky for us it's brand new and that means there could be even more psychedelic pop rock still to come from these guys. The reverby guitars blend so well with the lazy vocals. It makes for a great track to zone out to on a hot day. Faiyaz and The Wasted Chances play The Horseshoe Tavern on Wednesday May 20. Don't waste your chance to see them!-Kris"Big City"Gies

DOOMSQUAD-"Pageantry Suite”

Electronic rhythm, electric guitars, eclectic groove. Altogether lightning and extremely striking. Doomsquad brings together digital ambience, with velvet-smooth melodies and a serious funk. Three siblings and a metric ton of musical talent. Their new EP ”Pageantry Suite” contains some tunes that are good for getting around, getting down, or just kicking back and learning all the layers and nuances that are hidden within. Two Way Mirror is reminiscent of the B52’s over a crispy-cool baseline and light drone-pop percussion. The half shout lead made vocals relay a sincere sense of urgency and frustration, and the new-wave vogue in the female leads serve as a perfect counterweight. Apocalypso recalls Talking Heads, with a wave of ambience sitting behind a perfectly subdued minimalist rhythm. The accenting, effect-laden guitar lines recall both disco and a relaxing island calypso, like a dream sequence during the rapture. Ice Storm opens with a sustaining organ and tribal-sounding drums, to the tempo of a slow trudge through a frozen tundra. The tension builds with each element added, bringing dissonance and space, drops it off at the midway point, and does it all over again in a completely different tone for an extended cataclysmic groove that seems to carry on forever, and you’ll enjoy every savoury bit. Though there is so much going on throughout the record, it never feels dense or forced, and every swell, chord and synth feels essential, organs keeping a body alive.-Cody Wright
