Washer

Exploding in Sound's Washer plays Alphaville on July 28th

You couldn't tell by listening, but Washer is two unassuming New York natives: Kieran McShane and Mike Quigley. Like many a garage-punk band before them, these boys look like they would work for the geek squad but sound absolutely vengeful. Their 2016 release "Here Comes Washer" is an aimless punk album marked by Quigley's casually passionate vocals. Washer's lyrics have the tendency to stick in your head: "Nailed your picture/To the back's of my eyelids," captures a violent, loving imagery whose bluntness pairs perfectly with their sparse, familiar sound. Catch them live at Alphaville July 28th. -Allie Miller

Three punky NYC bands at Shea Stadium on 05.05: Big Ups, Dirty Dishes and Washer

Slacking noise lovers shouldn't miss this show at Shea Stadium on 05.05, since it features threee NYC bands with a noisy sound and a slacking attitude. Post-hardcore quartet Big Ups - our Best NYC Emerging Band of 2014 - will headline the bill and kick off a three date north east tour in support of their recent release 'Before a Million Universes.'  Their label mates, slacker rockers Washer will be one of the opening acts; after releasing a split EP with Big Ups in 2014, this past January released their debut album 'Here Comes Washer.' on the bill also noise rock purveyors Dirty Dishes, who recently expanded to a trio (picture) and released a new single in February entitled "All of Me" (streaming) and spent the early spring touring the East coast.

Washer releases split 7" with Big Ups + plays tonight (10.10) at Paragon Sports

Have you ever wonderend if a band releasing a split 7" with an artist that was featured on the cover of The Deli NYC automatically gets them coverage on our NYC blog? (Twisted phrasing!) Well, the answer is yes. The band in question is slacker rock duo Washer, who just released a split single with post hardcore maniacs Big Ups, who graced the cover of The Deli's Spring issue 2014. We wish we could stream a song from that single but the function isn't enabled, so we'll have to settle for this rather entertaining tune that marries punk sonics, post punk melodies and lo-fi attitude, entitled 'Lady Limp,' featured in the band's latest EP 'Bighead.' You can see Washer live tonight at Paragon Sports for this benefit show.

90s inspired NYC bands with good song and terrible picture: Washer

Sometimes all you need - besides a better band picture - is to break things down to the essence. Which if applied to rock'n'roll means drums and distorted guitars. Then throw some vocal melodies over that, layer it a little bit, and voila! Long Island/Brooklyn two-piece Washer does this with effortless ease. With a lo-fi sound that reminds us of our (semi-forever-lost) youth, echoing in part Local H and even contemporary acts Ty Segall or Mozes and the Firstborn, these guys deliver good songs blessed by unpretentious fun. Their jangly jams come to us just in time for spring: it's time to roll down the windows and enjoy the time-ride back to the 90s. - Joe Fish
