Told Slant

Told Slant ends tour + plays Alphaville on Sepbtember 23rd

Told Slant, an artist known for writing some of the saddest songs possible, has recently released a semi-happy song. 2016's album "Going By" and celebrated 2012 release "Still Water" contained tracks that sounded like band leader Felix Walworth was having his emotions wrung out of him while playing. But his recent collaborative release with Chicago's The JCW, entitled "Moonlight or Flashlight" (streaming below), sounds like a serene love song with a melancholic edge and an (almost) upbeat drum loop. "Moonlight" was part of Bandcamp's 100-track collection "Our First 100 Days" (related to Trump's presidency) which donated all proceeds to various charities. Told Slant recently completed a small, solo, east coast tour and will be playing live at Alphaville on September 23rd. -Allie Miller

gobbinjr plays Brooklyn Bazaar 05.31 with Told Slant, Fits and Crosslegged

gobbinjr, the moniker of Brooklyn's Emma Witner, is playing alongside Told Slant, Fits and Crosslegged at a We Make Noise benefit at Brooklyn Bazaar on May 31st. Fans of Porches and Frankie Cosmos will enjoy Witner's unique retro instrumentation. Drum machines and swelling keys compliment disarming lyrics such as: "I'm a vaccum-sealed freezer dinner rotting in the box," and "No one wants to love someone who's never been loved before." Check out the video for "vom nite" below. - Ethan Ames

Buzz Alert: Told Slant announces sophomore LP 'Going By' + tours with The Hotelier

One of the most interesting bands to emerge from the NYC artist collective The Epoch,  Felix Walworth's brainchild Told Slant have been picking up fans one by one with their touching indie folk celebration of sadness. Their 2012 debut album 'Still Water' has been a sleeper, but many found it thanks to the band's persistence in bringing their unique live performances around the country: Walworth is a drummer and, on stage, has found a way to be also a front man, without giving up his instrument. The group has just announced the release of sophomore album ''Going By' and an extensive tour with the Hotelier, which will end with a homecoming show at Bowery Ballroom on July 15th. Check out preview single 'Low Hymnal" below.

NYC Band on the Rise: Told Slant

Told Slant is the musical project of Brooklyn-based Felix Walworth currently featuring Oliver Kalb, Gabrielle Smith and Emily Sprague. After unceremoniously dropping their 10 song LP 'Still Water' on bandcamp two years ago in August 2012 (and garnering very little response as a result) the 'bedroom punk' band officially re-released the album earlier this year with Broken World Media and embarked on an almost-national tour with NY pop band Crying. A sorrowfully beautiful collection of songs, the album trickles along quietly at a slow pace allowing the listener to fully immerse themselves in the intensity of Walworth's dark and searching lyrics. Each song reads like a carefully crafted essay, honestly and artfully exploring relationships (and their dissolution), love, depression, confusion and the human condition. Listen to the full album here or even better purchase it on 12" vinyl via Broken World Media. - Brescia Mascheretti
