Swearin'

Weekend Warrior, December 7 - 9

A reflective maturity permeates throughout Fall Into The Sun (Merge Records), the latest album from reunited Swearin’. The quartet’s tour will be making a stop at Everybody Hits tomorrow night. The record seems to see with the clarity that comes from allowing the moment pass. However, it doesn’t feel like a time capsule, more so that altering proximity creates a broader or more well-rounded perspective. That being said; there’s still grit and emotive immediacy in the melodic manner which the lyrical vulnerability and instrumentation entangle. Swearin’ will be joined on the billing by the exuberant, blitzing pop-punk of tourmates Dark Thoughts and Cincinnati garage-punk trio Leggy. – Michael Colavita

New Swearin' LP Available for Streaming

Fall Into The Sun, the new album from Swearin', officially arrives on Friday, October 5 via Merge. However, thanks to NPR’s First Listen, in a way, it’s already here. Reflective introspection and a gritty, melodic pulse create a deeply personal yet accessible return. As thought processes are revealed and given the perspective, afforded by time, the album has the ability to sit in the moment yet move freely in energetic motion. Catch Swearin' with Empath on Wednesday, October 10 at the First Unitarian Church!

New Track: "Grow into a Ghost" - Swearin'

Swearin’ is back, with their forthcoming album, Fall Into The Sun, scheduled for release on October 5 via Merge. Its first single, “Grow into a Ghost,” gradually opens amid the buzz of power chords. While the smattering thump of backend, a cleaner guitar riff forges a path for Allison Crutchfield to step forward, leaving remnants of the past behind. A composed confidence is apparent as the rough edges push on the perimeter, giving way to a sense of clarity. You can catch Swearin’ at the First Unitarian Church on Wednesday, October 10, with Empath, who will be joining them on a week-long run.

P.S. Eliot Wrap Up Reunion Tour at PhilaMOCA Sept. 19 & 20

Katie and Allison Crutchfield received their inaugural taste of musical success in Birmingham, AL with the first band that they formed in high school called The Ackleys; however, after its members went off to different colleges, the group eventually disbanded, leading the twin sisters to their next musical endeavor, P.S. Eliot. The feminist pop-punk quartet, which also included Will Granger and Katherine Simonetti, prolifically wrote and recorded music before calling it quits in 2011. Of course, you most likely already know that Katie Crutchfield has gone to gain fame recording under the moniker Waxahatchee, and Allison has too with her band Swearin’. Earlier this year, P.S. Eliot announced that they would be reuniting to tour and release a 50-track compilation album, 2007-2011, via Don Giovanni Records, which features remasters of 2009’s Introverted Romance In Our Troubled Minds and 2011’s Sadie, as well as their 2010 Living In Squalor EP, demos, and home recordings. Well, they have been on tour for the past week or so in support of their latest release, and will be wrapping it up with an exciting two-night run of sold-out shows at PhilaMOCA, starting this evening with labelmate Moor Mother and Boston’s Fleabite and concluding the following evening with Philly friends Radiator Hospital and Pouty. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $12 (Sold Out), All Ages - Alexis V.

New Track: "We'd Never Agree" - P.S. Eliot & Announce New Reissue Compilation and Shows

Before most of the world heard of Waxahatchee or Swearin', Katie and Allison Crutchfield cut their teeth alongside Will Granger and Katherine Simonetti in pop-punk outfit P.S. Eliot. Well, the band just announced that it will be releasing a new 2xCD compilation, titled 2007 - 2011, on Septempber 2 via Don Giovanni Records, featuring recordings from their studio LPs Introverted Romance in Our Troubled Minds (2009) and Sadie (2011) and the Living in Squalor EP (2010), as well as demos and home recordings. Take a listen to the single "We'd Never Agree" below. P.S. Eliot will also be reuniting for a run of shows, and Philly folks can catch the gang at PhilaMOCA on Monday, September 19. (BTW: Waxahatchee also recently announced that she'll be releasing a new reissue collection called Early Recordings on June 17 via Merge Records.)
