New Weathervane Music Benefit Compilation Available for Streaming & Purchase

An assemblage of local artists unites on a new compilation benefitting FONE (Friends of Neighborhood Education). All the songs featured on Equal Loudness Vol.1 - Music to Benefit Philadelphia Public Schools were recorded at Miner Street Recordings, and released in collaboration with Weathervane Music. American Trappist, CayetanaSquare Peg Round Hole, Julia Rainer, and Bitter Bitter Weeks are among the cavalcade of contributors whom hope to raise awareness and funds for schools. This is an excellent example of musicianship paying it forward/back to the future by providing much-needed aid to education.

New Video: "Lapse" (Live - Blue Room) - Square Peg Round Hole

Electro-ambient trio Square Peg Round Hole was recently performed “Lapse” ( which was featured on their 2016 album Juniper) as part of ThrdCoast’s Blue Room series. Zoomed into the band’s working quarters, the dynamics of their tightly woven instrumental fabric are revealed. Compactly precise, percussion-forward movements develop intricate details that set the sound in cinematic motion.

New Video: Five Years Release Show - Square Peg Round Hole

The instrumental trio of Square Peg Round Hole recently shared its new EP, entitled Five Years. A rejuvenating, meditative calm washes over you, as one observes the encircling environment to blossom. Through subtle points of illumination, a beautiful vividness emerges. You can stream the album in its entirety HERE, and you can also view a video created by Vic Firth below, featuring a performance of the full album from the band's release show at the IceBox Project Space, as well as four reimagined arrangements of older Square Peg Round Hole songs. The group was accompanied by Joshua Chase Miller, Tessa K Ellis, and Anna Meadors, providing guest vocals, guitar, saxophone, and flugelhorn.

Weekend Warrior, January 13 - 15

After releasing their latest EP Five Years at the tail end of 2016, Square Peg Round Hole steps into the New Year with a show this evening at Johnny Brenda’s. An eye-and-ear-opening sonic landscape unveils itself, while the percussive-anchored trio fleshes out flourishes of futuristic accessible instrumental ambiance, pushing the perimeter without disregarding the origin. Tonight, they’ll be joined by fellow local sonic experimenters Grimace Federation and the electro-percussive bursts and blasts of Ian Chang (of Son Lux).

Cabin fever may take hold as the winter comes into fruition. However, the resounding, wood-burning resolve of storytelling laid over fresh strings complimented by the force of folky Americana and endearing harmony, that’s what’s on tap this Saturday at Boot & Saddle, where Black Horse Motel will celebrate the arrival of their new EP Parable. The album is available via Single Batch Records. - Michael Colavita

Square Peg Round Hole EP Release Show at Crane Arts Dec. 15

Crane Arts presents a rare opportunity this evening in the Icebox, as the experimental trio of Square Peg Round Hole, accompanied by a horn section as well as Josh Miller for a commemorative (one-time only) performance, brings their new ambient-oriented EP Five Years (Spartan Records) to life. The album, in and of itself, shifts gears, traveling through delicate, contemplative clouds in lieu of their characteristic, percussive style. Not only that, the EP will be paired/packaged with a limited edition original art print from the band’s own Carlos Pecheco-Perez. The transfixing electro-noise collective of Triangulus ushers in a sonic session that extends the spectrum. Crane Arts, 1400 N. American St., 8pm, $5/$20 (admission + original artwork print & EP download), All Ages - Michael Colavita
