Kate Ferencz Opening for Jamaican Queens at PhilaMOCA June 17

The endearing child-like vocals of Kate Ferencz will be ringing through PhilaMOCA this evening. The local lo-fi, avant-pop artists will have plenty of new material to share tonight since she recently dropped her latest LP Dying Alone. Ferencz will be opening for Detroit's Jamaican Queens, who will also have their new cassette, Downers, in tow. Sandwiched between the two will be Philly acoustic singer-songwriter Shannen Moser. PhilaMOCA, 531 S. 12th St., 7pm, $7, All Ages - H.M. Kauffman

New Shannen Moser LP Available for Streaming & Download

We first caught wind of local lo-fi singer-songwriter Shannnen Moser from the compilation Girls to the Stage. The single brought to light her talent for stirring up emotions and melodies, while stringing together such thought-provoking, poetic, stream-of-consciousness lyrics. We were very interested to hear more from her, which we all now can. Take a break from life, and listen to her latest LP you shouldnt be doing that. You can thank us later.

Girls Rock Philly Benefit - Girls to the Stage at FUC April 29

Girls Rock Philly has always been a positive influence towards empowering young women with music education, creative thinking, and leadership skills. And they’ll be contributing to it further with the release of Girls to the Stage, a compilation created to celebrate and promote Philly's up-and-coming female performers and “to empower other ladies to pick up an instrument and join 'em!” A number of well-known local indie acts like Amanda X and Mannequin Pussy have contributed to the album with all proceeds from its sales and the event benefitting the worthwhile organization. R5 Productions will be hosting the release at First Unitarian Church tonight, and it features the two aforementioned bands headlining. There will also be sets from Fake Boyfriend, Roya, VVeed VVolf, and Shannen Moser. First Unitarian Church, 2125 Chestnut St, 7PM, $8-$10, All Ages (Graphic by Michelle Krysztofiak) - Bill McThrill
