All Systems Are a Go w/Janelle at Bourbon & Branch June 1

Consistently throbbing basslines, vamping spacey synth, vocals filtered through the fog, and a grounding stampede of percussion, the trio of Janelle, opening tonight at Bourbon & Branch, mesh punk assertiveness with a cosmic shoegazing exploration. The byproduct is a ruminating calm with a heavier foundational bite. All systems are a go, and the music is rapidly gathering steam; however, even as the pressure rises, the band doesn’t break a sweat. A pair of FDH labelmates will be joining Janelle. The battleship of intensity that SGNLS unleashes is fueled via synth, searing shards of guitars and constant churning backend. Currently residing in Nebraska, the expanded synth-punk quintet of Digital Leather (whose new LP All Faded is due out on June 23 via FDH) headline the evening, delivering rapid-paced danceable jams. The "Kosmiche punk" of Throbbing Chakra that includes members of Lantern completes at show certain to shake off those week-starting woes. Bourbon & Branch, 705 N. 2nd St., 8pm, $10, 21+ - Michael Colavita

The Bad Doctors Record Release Show at The Boot & Saddle May 16

The new-wave punk-injected West Philly trio known as The Bad Doctors celebrates the release of their first full-length entitled Burning City (FDH Records) tonight at The Boot and Saddle. The group performs synth-laden, danceable music embedded with a more serious closer to the surface attitude concentrated in the heavy deep tones found in Matt McDermott’s vocals. The Bad Doctors work that tug of war push-pull found between joy and darkness and release and reality. They will be joined on the bill this evening by recent Deli Featured Artist(s) Poll Winners future/primitive whose self-titled 12’’ is a steady churning blend of jagged, stabbing guitars, steady thumping back-end and assertive, serious/raw-coated vocals. Synth-punk hybrid and fellow FDH Records labelmates SGNLS round out the night’s lineup. The Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 8pm, $10, 21+ - Michael Colavita

Tuesday Tune-Out w/SGNLS & Dangerbird Jr. at PhilaMOCA May 6

Tuesday Tune-Out returns this evening at PhilaMOCA after a brief hiatus last month so that the multi-purpose art space could host another successful year of Cinedelphia Film Fest. May's series will be curated by WKDU's Yoni Kroll, and this inaugural event will feature the heavy synth-punk of SGNLS, who will be releasing a new LP via FDH Records very soon, and Dangerbird Jr., who will be a stripped-down version of psych outfit Dangerbird. (They were kind enough to be a last minute replacement after The Bad Doctors dropped off the bill.). Tonight's film will be "a 70s rock music horror cult classic." PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 7:30pm, $5, All Ages - H.M. Kauffman
