Philly darkwave trio Remote Control just shared its official debut single. The heart-pounding, low-end synths of "Exposure" gets you right from the gate. The guitar rings out beckoning for the macabre combination of vocals to emerge. Be warned: "Winter is coming," and you can find "Exposure" on the band's upcoming EP Wasteland. It is also now available on limited edition cassette and digital format (below), which is accompanied by a remix from Crash Course In Science. 

Rowdy, restless, riff-charged Dark Web tied us in with their self-titled album (The Deli Philly’s April Record of the Month). This Saturday, their nonstop sewer punk sounds serve as the primer for a Record Store Day lineup at Repo Records that doesn’t quit. The stampeding, snarling, punk anthems of Posers enter the fray, while a fire-breathing, raw-rock fury explodes from the down and dirty exploits of Residuels. The murky, mystic, synth-laced, darkwave of Remote Control will dial you in, and sticky, psych grooves and sweltering exploratory guitar runs set off the closing solo set from Purling Hiss. 

As the day dwindles down, Eris Temple Arts will host the release show for chamber-folk ensemble On the Water’s new EP Superposition. Whether dashing forward in exuberant rock or swaying in reflective melodies, Dominic resonates. Potentially showcasing material from their forthcoming album Burn Bridges, Burn Pies, the Mad-Hattered, quirky concoctions of OhBree is on the slate, as are the adventurous-eclectic instrumentation merged with captivating songwriting of Dear Rabbit. The duo of Baby & Shylow, which features Aleks Martray (Grandchildren), kicks off the proceedings. - Michael Colavita

Tonight, Boot & Saddle hosts a trio of bands that may momentarily cut through the daily grind. The Guests reflect a melodic, seeking sound as synths are crisply infused into casually fun yet precisely executed combinations of clean rolling guitars, smattering percussion and solidifying bass, providing the foundation for the mysteriously galvanizing vocals. That loosening new-wave/darkwave instrumental flexibility couples with a murky, captivating undertow. On this evening, one doubles downs with the hypnotically haunting blue wave of Remote Control, while the UK’s Chain of Flowers entices with their caravan of hazy-heavy shoegaze. A sinister murkiness compounded by the lure of percussive immediacy frame the dark wave of Remote Control, the latest project from Nicky Kulp (Far-Out Fangtooth, Creepoid). Male and female vocals hypnotically bounce off each other before ultimately uniting in haunting harmony. The trio brings their foreboding, night-crawling sound to Kung Fu Necktie tonight. A pair of Funeral Party Records labelmates in Nashville’s Western Medication, who bring a spring-loaded, daydreaming air with a heart-pounding push, and with a freshly released self-titled EP in hand, Australian outfit Death Bells create a steamy dream-pop landscape.
