Mary Lattimore & Jeff Zeigler

Mary Lattimore & Jeff Zeigler Opening for Kevin Morby & Steve Gunn at Underground Arts Aug. 26

Underground Arts is opening up its recently renovated Black Box space tonight for a sweet Tuesday night show. You'll find Woods bassist Kevin Morby, bringing some beautiful tunes from his solo project to the Eraserhood, and guitar maestro Steve Gunn will be captivating the crowd with his intricate fingerpicking. Local favorites Mary Lattimore & Jeff Zeigler will also be hosting the talented visitors by kicking things off this evening. The duo is releasing their debut album Slant of Light next month via Thrill Jockey, and has plans to hit the road at the end of September through mid-October in the U.S. and Canada. Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., 8pm, $14, 21+ - H.M. Kauffman

New Video: Kensington Picnic II - Mary Lattimore & Jeff Zeigler

Kensington Picnic II was blessed with great weather this Saturday that fed into good vibes that resonated throughout the day. After a freewheelin', rock 'n' roll set by Spacin', which included a new fifth member on saxophone and flute, the crowd smoothly transitioned and attentively listened to a mesmerizing set by Mary Lattimore & Jeff Zeigler that welcomed the setting of the sun. You can view and take a listen to part of the performance below, which was recorded and posted by co-event organizers Fire Museum. (Photo by Kyle Andrews)

Weekend Warrior, August 8 - 10

It’s going to be beautiful weather for a picnic this weekend so luckily, Kensington Picnic II is back with a stellar lineup all-day Saturday at the Liberty Vintage Motorcycles yard. One of my favorite bands, Spacin’, is slated for an earlier set in the day so make sure not to miss them, because you never know when you’ll get a chance again. The band recently finished recording their new album, which (I was told) will be released via Richie Records. Some more rad psych rock news, Birds of Maya, who are performing later in the day, will also be returning with a new album that they recorded in the woods of New York. So excited to hear some new tunes from both crews! Filling out the jam-packed bill of local area talent will be Strapping Fieldhands, Mary Lattimore & Jeff Zeigler, Fursaxa, Laura Baird, Randall of Nazareth (Randy Huth of Pearls & Brass), and Hohlraum (Joe Winters of Pearls & Brass and Sean McGuiness of Pissed Jeans). Yup, it’s definitely where you want to be this weekend! Liberty Vintage Motorcycles Yard, Frankford Ave. (between Susquehanna & Dauphin), 12pm-8pm, Free, All Ages - Q.D. Tran

Free Download: "The White Balloon" - Mary Lattimore & Jeff Zeigler

Below is the first offering from the collaborative EP, Slant of Light (Thrill Jockey), by harpist Mary Lattimore and sound sculptor Jeff Zeigler called "The White Ballon," which you can stream and download for free below. The gentle, breeze-in-the-wind piece and the rest of the album was recorded at Uniform Recording during "a city-stopping snowstorm" earlier this year. You'll be able to find the duo performing this Saturday alongside many other rad acts at the Kensington Picnic II.
