Situated along the western edge of Northern Liberties on Girard is batting cage and DIY venue Everybody Hits, who this week will be hosting a stacked set headed by Philly's own Pinkwash.  The duo of Joey Doubek and Ashley Arnwine churns out intensely gripping tunes that are as swift as they are leaden, captivating a wide array of attention in the music community, while finding homes for their releases on labels Sister Polygon and Don Giovanni Records. The band’s name is derived from the term "pinkwashing," which refers to the often unregulated practice of companies aligning their products and brands with cancer awareness and LGBTQ movements without necessarily contributing to those causes. Pinkwash will be joined by fellow Philadelphians Lithuania and Loose Tooth, as well as Chicago-based musical outlet Slow Mass. Slow Mass are currently on tour in support of their new EP Treasure Pains, released earlier this month via Landland. They draw sonic inspiration from associated acts Into It. Over It., My Dad and Former Thieves, while distinguishing their new project as an exciting endeavor with plenty of potential for new material. Everybody Hits, 527 W. Rowdy, rambunctious, rumbling, percussion pummeling serves as the blunt energetic force behind the slow-burning, emotive fuse of Loose Tooth. There’s a somewhat sentimental stewing as the melodic pop-punk narratives unfold, and then the switch flips; the quartet accelerates into top gear, bringing an aggressive avalanche of sound along the way. The lyrically incisive yet playful electro-folk, bedroom-pop of Scott Leitch, a.k.a. Shelf Life, and the seductively smooth yet consistently surging sounds of Blue Smiley will be joining them. Steady surges of instrumentation pace the narrative, as the song quickly gains a guttural grip. A masked Loose Tooth gang enjoys a hang at the shore (minus one) in the band's new video for the single "Skinny Chewy." The track is off their debut LP Easy Easy East, which is available via Fleeting Youth Records. The video was directed by local native Pete Murray. BTW: How about a giveaway for the heads?

With riffs establishing a framework that is jarring while rushing forward in abbreviated bursts, hooking into your sides with unshielded, witty lyrics, Loose Tooth develops a pop-punk sound that snaps into action. The band provides quick-hitting songs that accelerate, merging percussion and high-gear guitar to force the issue; however, the quartet is also able to downshift, allowing the focus to alter on a zoomed-in perspective, softening the blow. The exposed dynamite lined alt-rock of Mumblr joins in on the fun at the batting cages. With a freshly released record, Delusion Moon, via SideOneDummy Records, post-punk trio Meat Wave and raucous Canadian rockers The Dirty Nil complete a bill that is the attitude adjustment one needs on a Tuesday.
