Stop by Holocene Wednesday night for a night of dancy electro pop and fancy guitarwork. Headlining the evening, Adventure Galley have fancy new stage lights and new jams to showcase along with tunes off their November '13 debut LP Anywhere That's Wild. Wishyunu are second on the bill with their low-fi blend of electro pop, and Just Lions open up the night with their mellow guitar centric indie rock. The Deli Portland is back at Kelly's Olympian on March 1st with an delicious night of local music. Opening up the show is Adam Brock 4, who have taken a broad range of musical flavors to cook up a sound that is equal parts folk, indie rock and electronic with a dash of pop for good measure. After simmering in the Portland music scene they’ve cooked a unique sound that’s turning heads wherever they play. Next up is Just Lions, who will bring a tasty, jazz-tinted rock n’ roll jamboree that to leave your ear buds buzzing with excitement. Closing out the show is Hustle and Drone whose sweet, synthesized rhythms and electronic foundation support an undeniably soulful sound. Their live show is electrifying, and not to be missed. Doors open at 8:30 with the music starting up at 9, join the Deli crew at Kelly’s to see some of the bands that help to make Portland’s diverse and flavorful music scene. ¡Viva la musica!

Just Lions have brought in a ton support from fans in their second Deli poll (they were our Artist of the Month way back at the beginning of 2013) and have taken silver in the Best of 2013 readers’ choice poll. Their rocking, at times anthemic compositions have worked their way through most every venue in town over the past year and garnered them attention for their dynamic hooks and tight arrangement. I was excited to see so many local bands that I love had submitted their music to be reviewed for our Year End Poll (see right), but what excited me even more was seeing who came out on top once the reviewing process was over (see here for more details on the reviewing process). The post-indie stylings of Rare Monk, hook driven songs written by Just Lions, progressive musical experiments conducted by Sama Dams and the dreamscapes that only Soft Shadows can create deserve inclusion in our Best of 2013 list as much as any band nominated by our jurors. Just Lions have released a new video for the title track off of their Monsters EP. The nostalgic black and white video portrays a story of young couple falling in love and being attacked by a ghoulish antagonist in between shots of the band rocking out in a campy set.
