Hop Along

Hop Along Co-Headline w/The Sidekicks at FUC Sept. 3

Local indie-rock outfit Hop Along is currently touring North America and Canada with Cleveland, Ohio’s The Sidekicks, who they’ve spent a recent stint in Europe with this past spring. Though they’ve been battling some van problems on the road, Hop Along will be more than ready to get the all-ages crowd into a sweaty frenzy in the basement of the First Unitarian Church tonight. They’ll also be armed with two new songs that they’ve been testing out on the road. Also joining the R5 and The Guild co-presented bill this evening will be Philly’s own Luther and Ma Jolie. First Unitarian Church, 2125 Chestnut St., 7pm, $10 - $12, All Ages - Alexis V.

New Video: "Sister Cities" (Shaking Through) - Hop Along

Sorry if we are slow on the draw with this, but last night, we found this video for Hop Along's new track "Sister Cities" from their Shaking Through episode via YouTube. (BTW: We know that Vimeo is Shaking Through's preferred video site to use, but we really can't stand how long it takes for their videos to load up. Anyone else feelin' us?) What caught our attention is that the Shaking Through crew tracked the song with footage from the session to make a music video, which was the first time we'd ever seen them do that with one of their featured artists. We're more used to their videos containing part of the song from during recording and mostly interview segments. Twas a nice surprise - enjoy!

Shaking Through w/Hop Along

Below is the latest episode of Weathervane Music's Shaking Through featuring Philly's very own Hop Along performing a new song "Sister Cities." The band garnered much praise for last year's LP Get Disowned and their bombastic live performances, and they continue to build on their fine catalogue with their latest. You can watch some of its recording process below, and download the new track for free HERE. Enjoy!

Hop Along & Cayetana Opening for The Thermals at Union Transfer May 25

Hop Along, fresh off a victory lap from the recording of their debut album Get Disowned, are opening for cerebral pop-punk powerhouses The Thermals at Union Transfer tonight, along with jangly, exuberant newcomers Cayetana. Anyone who's been following the trajectory of Frances Quinlan et al knows that the trio has a few styles to their name - power-folk, punk riffs, heart-rending anthemics. Get Disowned finds Hop Along throwing each of their trademark sounds up to 11, all while keeping anchored in the bruising, heart-on-sleeve quality with which they began. Cayetana, who share much of Hop Along's immediacy and sunny-meets-pensive atmosphere, are a fitting companion, and of course, opening for The Thermals is no mean feat, one that comes with a fair measure of congratulations for the fledgling outfit who recently signed to Tiny Engines. Union Transfer, 1026 Spring Garden St., 8:30pm, $15, 21+ - Alyssa Greenberg

The Deli Philly’s Best of 2012 Poll Top Performer: Hop Along

The Frances Quinlan-fronted trio of Hop Along embraces the raw, unfiltered straight-from-gut-to-the-listeners’-ears approach. It’s that instant reaction, “this isn’t staged, these are my real thoughts and fears” intimacy that gives Hop Along such authenticity. It’s easy to buy in. This isn’t fabricated or produced for effect; it’s just real. Using that as a starting point and coupling it with instrumentation that fits the context of the lyrics from bright and uplifting (energetically clean and harmonic) to down and out (ragged and dreary), all while Frances does her best to make you feel meaning from each and every word she sings is what you’ll find on the group’s official debut LP Get Disowned. Hop Along is a brutally honest band that opens the closet and shares all its skeletons. (Photo by Tiffany Yoon) - Michael Colavita
