New Dirty Pillows ACLU Benefit Compilation (Vol. 1) Available for Streaming & Purchase

Philly/Minneapolis-based indie label Dirty Pillows just announced that it will be dropping a series of 7" records that will benefit the ACLU. The releases will be split between each of the cities, with proceeds going to their local chapters. Volume 1 features previously unreleased tracks from Purling Hiss ("Sit Down"), Harsh Vibes ("Laser Floyd"), and Dulls ("Find You"), as well as a remix from Sad13 and contributions from LOUDS and many other talented artists. You can stream the compilation in its entirety below, and feel free to purchase multiple copies via a variety of formats. Donate what you can for a good cause!

Harsh Vibes Opening for Ecstatic Vision at KFN April 2

Harsh Vibes takes more of an introspective shoegaze-y angle to psych rock, but drops it out of airy, ethereal textures with an oversized Acme anvil of fuzz and rude, distended guitar tones. The pairing of heavy psych and shoegaze evokes bands like The Telescopes, but unlike The Telescopes, Harsh Vibes has the capacity and the audacity to seemingly explore both genres and all the space between in just a single song. The disembodied vocals are sparse and seem to take a backseat to the hungry, fuzz-laden riffs and textural experimentation. Harsh Vibes will be helping to sendoff stony, rapture-inducing, Hawkwind-style freak rockers, Ecstatic Vision, as they head out on an international tour. Come wish them well, and embrace a bit of sonic nirvana! Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 10pm, $6, 21+ - Bryce Woodcock

Don't Belong w/Harsh Vibes at JB's Jan. 6

Harsh Vibes conjure a sense of not belonging, while seeking and destroying all in its path. The blend of acid rock, noise and metal is not for the faint of heart with soundscapes enveloping you in a sea of guitar riffs, menacing low-end, and unrelenting drums. Harsh Vibes will be sharing their latest sacrifice to the world, the 12" You Left Me Far Behind, tonight at Johnny Brenda's. Along to test the decibel levels of the room will be metal enthusiasts Ruby The Hatchet and Hound. This evening might be a good night to bring those earplugs that you hate so much. Johnny Brenda's 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $10, 21+ - Alexis V.

New Track: "You Left Me Far Behind" (Single Edit) - Harsh Vibes

Psychedelic noise-rock outfit Harsh Vibes has a new 12" vinyl coming out on January 15. Below is the "single" edited version of the band's expansive A-side called "You Left Me Far Behind." We are sure that you'll hear more extended, jammed-out renditions of Harsh Vibes's compositions this Friday, January 8 when the five-piece headlines Johnny Brenda's.

Weekend Warrior, July 10 - 12

Tonight, Underground Arts (specifically the cozy confines of the Black Box) will be abuzz as a trio of local acts revs up the audience for tonight’s headliner. That initial sky-rocketing blast will be detonated by Harsh Vibes, whose cosmic journey plays in fuzzed-out long form. They stretch sonic waves to allow those noisy particles to methodically gather momentum and fortitude, while maintaining a steady course and exploring unknown regions, only to seamlessly transition into a higher gear in the optimal setting. It’s a powerful-meets-purposeful head-trip. After just sharing a few new demos, the propulsive synth- driven, creeping wave of The Bad Doctors will rouse you to your feet, although you may want to occasionally peer over your shoulder. Meanwhile, the get-loose, surf-garage rock of The Tough Shits retain a gritty spirit, producing the type of songs that you’ll replay in your head throughout the weekend. They’ll be bridging the divide to the heavy plunge of California psych-garage outfit Meatbodies. Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., 8pm, $12, 21+ - Michael Colavita
