Former Belle

Former Belle Capture a Space Deep Within at Mantua Yacht Club Jan. 9

Led by Bruno Catrambone (CRUISR), Former Belle creates a sonic setting that lingers, staying within a memorable manner. These songs capture a space deep within, as their uninhibited folk honesty hits the back of ones neck, sending a haunting shiver up the spine. However, while hitting emotion at its core, there remains a free sense of moment that brightens the creaky corners. Now, as they work on (and hopefully) reveal new material tonight, Former Belle enters Mantua Yacht Club. South Jersey’s Pine Barons develop experiment through a balance of folk simplicity, elevated with polished/customized harmonies that shift dynamics from a cruising movement to a controlled push that shakes the standard foundation. Local punk four-piece Stay at Home Dad and Heads On Sticks, which includes Darla’s Brendan Monahan, as well as Great Space complete the lineup. Mantua Yacht Club, (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more info.), 8pm, $5, All Ages - Michael Colavita

Weekend Warrior, June 27 - 29

Former Belle headlines a stacked deck of a lineup this evening at Bourbon & Branch, celebrating their newly released EP Old Ghost. The collection of B-sides wets the appetite for their upcoming full-length release while also providing a taste of fresh songs. These tracks have an endearing intimacy and a fearless sense of expression, revealing a haunting honesty that resonates song after song. DJ Brown-led Our Griffins is another fine example, combining songwriting with his calm yet powerful vocal timbre and a consistent pulsing instrumentation that has a way of creeping into your head and taking residence. Another pair of intriguing folk-oriented risers, who have both been Deli Philly Featured Artist Poll winners in Maitland and Jeremiah Tall, square up a bill which spills over with an abundance of local talent. Bourbon & Branch, 705 N. 2nd St., 8pm, $10, 21+ - Michael Colavita
