New Music Video: "Honey" - Aphra

Below is a new music video for Aphra's single "Honey," which can be found on her debut EP Sadness is a Gesture. Though Rebecca Waychunas may be best known around these parts for her ethereal pop tunes, she reveals another talent in her repertiore, with a powerful, emotionally-revealing modern dance performance. The routine was choreographed by Megan Matuzak and filmed by Ella Miller and Tim O'Donnell at Underground Arts. Aphra will be appearing next in Philly this Saturday, December 8 at Everybody Hits with Tigerstrype, Dolores, and Heatmap. All proceeds from the show will be donated to Prevention Point Philadelphia, a Kensington-based harm reduction organization that is focused on preventing drug overdose deaths. They'll also be collecting toiletries that evening to help supply the nonprofit's homeless outreach team.

New Aphra Album Available for Streaming & Purchase

Rebecca Waychunas, a.k.a. Aphra, strings out stirring, sensitive songs, developed through personal/familial struggles. Her latest release, Sadness is a Gesture (Inherent Sounds), exhibits an unimpeded array of vocally-anchored, heart-rendering exposures. These songs maintain an intimate, aching proximity, aided instrumentally by scene-sketching electronics, molding the many moods. Waychunas finds a way to create elegantly raw music that shifts the focus onto the real and gritty darkness of addiction. She’s set to perform on Wednesday, March 8 at The Barbary to celebrate its release, with a lineup that includes Blood Sound and The Undercover Dream Lovers.

New Track: "Honey" - Aphra

Journey with Aphra into the ether with her new track "Honey," which Rebecca Waychunas premiered yesterday in her interview for Stereogum's Artist To Watch. It's the latest single from her forthcoming EP Sadness Is A Gesture, due out digitally on February 28 and on vinyl in April via Inherent Sounds. Waychuna shared, "Tragedy and trauma are a huge part of my past. People need to know that about me before they get close to me." The album is "definitely about mourning" as she uses it partly to work through past difficult relationships. "In order to process trauma in your past, you have to see it, you have to look at it, you have to talk about it. Whether it's with a therapist or through art or with just a friend." You can share in her healing process when Aphra performs at her record release show on Wednesday, March 8 at The Barbary with Brooklyn's The Undercover Dream Lovers.

New Music Video: "Geranimo" - Aphra

The new music video for “Geranimo” by Aphra, a.k.a. Rebecca Way (formerly of Tutlie), initiates with the twinkle of a music box - a luminous visual. Throughout the production, Way and three friends capture an earnest expression of emotion through the beauty of modern dance. The spectrum of light and color shifts, revealing the simplicity and isolation that black & white imagery exposes in contrast to the blank slate/new day at the video’s start. As we await Aphra’s debut EP Sadness Is a Gesture (coming this spring), she’s slated to perform next in Philly on Thursday, March 10 at Kung Fu Necktie with So Totally, Soft Fangs, and Brandon Can’t Dance.
