New Track: "Standing in the Sun" (Jessica Lea Mayfield Cover) - Abi Reimold

After opening for Jessica Lea Mayfield last month, singer-songwriter Abi Reimold shared her take of "Standing in the Sun," off Mayfield's 2014 album Make My Head Sing... Reimold's singing creates an even more somber atmosphere than the original before static-y synths and electric guitar rip through the ending, leading way for fading, layered vocals. You can catch her performing live in Philly next on Sunday, December 27 as part of the a Walla Fest music & art event at The Pharmacy.

New Video: "Morning" (Live - Swell Tone Session) - Abi Reimold

Filmmaker Bob Sweeney and Shana Hartzel direct and deliver a layered, captivating video in a dark and drafty wooded area as sing-songwriter Abi Reimold explores “Morning” in this Swell Tone Session. Found on the Forget EP, this live version takes the stirring looped guitar, and combines it with Reimold’s hauntingly heartfelt vocals as the choral sounding background vocals mesh with chilling warmth. The result is breathtaking.

Friendship Album Release Show at Everybody Hits Oct. 17

The quartet of Friendship celebrates the same-day release of You’re Going to Have to Trust Me via Burst & Bloom Records, tonight at Everybody Hits. The group produces a crackling fire of affecting folk/alt-country. With a twangy endearing instrumental base that slices through the outdoors, Friendship embraces the power of lyrical narratives, comfortly building a tunnel from one’s heart to the outside world. However, while these moments tend to simmer, they are prone to volatile flare ups were that even keel is traded in for sincere raw turbulence. Tourmate Abi Reimold brings her own brand of torrentially soothing folk. The calming, melodically rich, lyrically poetic, bedroom sounds of Kississippi, whose next release We Have No Future, We’re All Doomed will be available November 20 via Soft Speak Records, will also be on hand as well as the ailing-pop treatment Old Maybe. Everybody Hits, 529 W. Girard Ave., 8pm, $5-$7, 21+ - Michael Colavita

One Year Anniversary! at Lavender Town Sept. 5

Establishing and maintaining a space where like-minded people can express, perform, and absorb creativity is a complex/ tricky endeavor. DIY spaces are a vital component to a city's underground and independent music scene. However, these spaces are often short-lived. Tonight the 1-year anniversary of Lavender Town is commemorated with a lineup befitting of celebration including the jarring emotional alt-rock exploits of Mumblr and melodic indie rockers The Mellowells. Abi Reimold with a full band delivers her accustomed clash of musical weather currents, resulting in a beautiful yet turbulent storm. The outlaw hip hop of Cornelius The Third, the funky surf-rock concoction of New Brunswick’s Professor Caveman, the tempered charge of New York punks InCircles, and acoustic folk rocker Curtis Cooper help to ring in the beginning of year 2. Cheers! Lavender Town, (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more information.) 6:30pm, $3-$5, All Ages - Michael Colavita
