Q&A with the deli's Band of the Month: A Do
by Chrissy Prisco

deli: How did the band start?

A Do: After playing in a few different bands, Adrienne and Derek thought it was time to hit the books and start writing. Also, pulling a band together which now consists of Adrienne, Derek, Greg, and Sam.

Where did the band name, A Do, come from?

The name 'A Do' was derived by simply by combining ‘A’ for Adrienne + LeDoux (Derek’s last name)= A Do, seemed to make sense.

What are your biggest musical influences?

It’s difficult to hit them all between four members, but Queens of the Stone Age is one for all, then everything from Led Zepplin to STP, Pearl Jam, classic Motown, it’s really difficult to answer this one, as there’s so many.

What artists (local, national and/or international) are you currently listening to?

The current Boston/NYC playlist includes: Grand Evolution, The Blackboard Nails, Shadwell, Shannon Corey, Satellites Fall, Madison Red, Late Night Cat Fight, TAB the Band, Pillow Theory, and January Jane. We are listening to UK bands, old and new, like The Flow, Fuckshovel and The Discords. Also, Lightspeed Daredevils from ATL, they collaborated on our album and EP.

What's the first concert that you ever attended and first album that you ever bought?

Derek’s album purchased was Sony and Cher. “Forget the album, remember Cher in the white dress on the cover? First concert? Ratt. I can still hear the ‘Round and round…’ buzzing in my head.”

What do you love about New Englands music scene? The people, specifically the other bands, promoters, sound people, bartenders, photographers, etc. It always feels like we’re going to a club meet or a reunion. We’ve made so many friends along the way.

What would you like to see change in the local music scene? More A Do fans?

What are your plans for the upcoming year?

More music definitely, beyond that we aren’t sure. I think fun will be involved.

What was your most memorable live show? Can’t beat the first one. When Greg exchanged his bass for a mic and did "Fortune Cookie" we weren’t quite sure how it was going to go down. It was an effort to concentrate on the song rather than bust out laughing.

Is there someone who has helped your band grow through support?

Our friends who selflessly come to our shows to support us and vote for things when we ask them to. It means so much and you don’t realize it till you’re in a band. Also, Stephen Maffeo was our first drummer, good friend and veteran band musician. He gave us a lot of advice before our first gigs.

Is there a piece of equipment you couldn't live without and why?

Derek says his Les Paul BFG custom.

Why do you read The Deli?

Not only do we love roast beef but, seriously it’s a great site. LOVE.
